Bengali language also known by its endonym Bangla is the official language of Bangladesh and also the official state language of West BengalTripura and Barak Valley in the state of Assam. 261 Million speakers from all over the world speaks Bengali (source) which makes Bengali the 6th mostly spoken language of the world.

Bengali Dance Group, Christchurch is a non-profit Ethnic Dance Group which promotes Bengali music and culture through their dance performances to the wider community of Christchurch, New Zealand. The dance style of this group may be divided into three main categories which are classical, folk and modern. 

The group members have already performed in different community programs like ICC World Cup Trophy Tour 2015, Cultural Galore, Celebrate Bishopdale, Christchurch Diwali 2018 etc. under different banner. The group members had felt the necessity for an identity to expand their activities and operations  such as conducting free dance classes and more involvement with cultural activities which lead them to form this group.
